Check out the stars and desert with flights to Egypt

Brits trawling the internet for unique package holidays to Egypt could be interested in the Sinai Family Astronomy Tour.

The new offering from the Adventure Company promises those with kids over the age of 12 a family holiday of a lifetime.

With a trip into the Sinai desert, holidaymakers on the special week-long excursion in August will be treated to a camel trek, wilderness camping and a special explanation of the stars.

Astronomer and 'galactic ranger' John Mason will share his knowledge of the night sky, with guests being able to take advantage of their destination to get a real look at what space has to offer.

The lack of surrounding towns and the almost-guaranteed cloudless skies makes the desert perfect for stargazing, while August is the best time of year to check out meteor showers or 'shooting stars'.

Adventure Company managing director Claire Wilson explained that gaining just a little knowledge of astronomy can greatly improve one's appreciation of the stars.

"Dr Mason's enthusiasm for the celestial world is contagious and he has a wonderful way of bringing astronomy to life for kids and adults alike," she said.

Optional extras on the trip include windsurfing, diving, kayaking and an overnight trip to Mount Sinai - where Moses supposedly spoke to the burning bush in biblical times.
