Primary focus of holidays 'is relaxation'

The majority of Brits take holidays in order to relax and shake off the stresses and strains of everyday life.

Frances Tuke, a spokesperson for ABTA - The Travel Association, said the primary focus for many people is to get away from work.

"In terms of what we are looking for on holiday, people are also using their holidays to discuss important matters and to change their lives as well," she commented.

Ms Tuke noted that long-haul destinations in particular often give people the space they need to clear their heads and unwind.

She pointed out that some holidaymakers use their breaks to get reacquainted with their partners.

A recent study carried out by Kuoni revealed that the Maldives and Thailand are among the most popular long-haul hotspots for British travellers.

Other places that feature in the top ten include the US, Egypt, China, Malaysia and the United Arab Emitates.
