The African nations of Kenya and Ghana are proving popular adventure spots for students looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of British living while enjoying a gap year from their studies.

According to John Lawler, chief of operations at Madventurer.com, Ghana’s unexpected success at the 2010 football World Cup in South Africa has really made it stand out as a potential destination to people taking a break from education.

But they are also draw to Africa because of the wildlife and beauty of the continent.

“Because of the nature of where they're going, Kenya is fantastic for safari and overlanding, things like that. Just over half go on and do something adventurous to say they've done a little bit of both,” Mr Lawler said.
