Head to Portugal 'for the perfect family holiday'

Portugal is the perfect destination for a family holiday, with its sophisticated cities and stunning beaches, it has been claimed.

Writing for BA Highlife, travel expert Simon Calder said the cost of travelling there has dropped considerably in recent years.

People who enjoy spending time soaking up the sunshine at the beach should head to the Algarve.

"The Algarve is often mentioned in the same breath as Spain's Costa del Sol or Turkey's Turquoise Coast, yet it is sophisticated, seductive - and savage," he commented.

Mr Calder added that the market town of Albufeira is also an appealing destination for British travellers.

It was revealed earlier this month that the cost of taking holidays to Spain and Portugal has fallen significantly in recent years.

According to the latest Post Office Holiday Costs Barometer, prices have fallen by up to 42 per cent in some places, compared to last year.
