Africa sees rise in online holiday enquiries


African holidays are surging in popularity according to new research from digital marketing agency Greenlight.

The new ‘Holiday Issue 11’ reveals that there were 3.1 million online holiday searches in the final few months of 2011 and African enquiries exceeded those for the Caribbean, Far East and South East Asia for the first time.

European destinations, such as Spain and the Greek isles dominated the searches made by UK consumers, with North America coming second overall.

However, in the month of November Africa overtook North America and accounted for 17 per cent of all searches.

North American dropped to 15 per cent, while the Caribbean and South American were at nine per cent and the Far East and Australasia attracted seven per cent of the total figure

Figures released recently shows that confidence returning to the tourist trade in the North Africa nation of Egypt.

The Egypt Tourism Authority said that more than one million Brits visited the country and more are expected this year.
