More than half of Britons are planning to jet abroad on a cheap holiday this year, new research has revealed.

A study carried out by foreign exchange provider First Rate found that 56 per cent of people expect to take a break in 2010.

Furthermore, 22 per cent claimed they are still considering their travel options.

Londoners are the most likely to be taking a holiday this year, while people in the West Midlands are the least likely.

In addition, the survey revealed that 64 per cent of people between the ages of 18 and 24 expect to take a break, compared to 54 per cent of 35 to 44-year-olds.

Speaking recently, Travel Weekly editor Lucy Huxley said people who missed out on their annual holiday last year are keen make a trip abroad this summer.

She noted that non-eurozone destinations such as Turkey and Egypt continue to be in demand.
