Visitors urged to explore on Algarve holidays

Britons planning summer holidays in the Algarve region of Portugal this year have been encouraged to do some exploring.

Martina Kerk, 'sun and sea' product manager at the Algarve Promotion Bureau, pointed out that the area's warm climate allows travellers to experience the full variety of the destination at their leisure.

She recommended visiting inland locations and going for a hike along walking trails such as the Via Algarviana and Rota de Cortica.

"Taste the wines, the rich gastronomy and delicious seafood prepared in a traditional 'cataplana'," added Ms Kerk.

"Head to the lesser-known western Algarve, into the hills of Monchique, and experience local cultures and traditions in the small towns and villages."

The region is home to a number of popular resorts and seafront destinations that travellers can use as a base for their summer holidays and other getaways, such as Albufeira, Praia da Rocha, Vilamoura and Vale do Lobo.ADNFCR-2580-ID-800494264-ADNFCR
