Tuck into local cuisine on a Cyprus holiday

Brits booking package holidays to Cyprus this summer should be sure to pack their appetite, with the island having some great cuisine just waiting to be discovered.

According to VisitCyprus.com, those spending their summer holidays in Cyprus should bypass the traditional plate-smashing and check out some of the trendier eateries.

Limassol is developing a new "paddock to plate" culture, where diners can chow down on local dishes and enjoy specially-selected Cypriot wines.

Traditional favourites like afelia and pastitsio are to be found next to mushroom dishes which have been flashed in Commandaria wines or rocket-wrapped smoked pork drenched in strawberry coulis and fresh pepper.

Visitors should keep an eye out for celebrity chef and author Roddy Damalis, who is often spotted in the Old Limassol Market, where he picks out fresh ingredients for his Little Plates Restaurant.

Meanwhile the Fat Fish on the beachfront offers tasty crab cakes, scallops simmered in tomato or herb-packed sea bream, with guests being shaded from the warm sun by army-style camouflage netting.

Lying to the east of Greece and south of Turkey, Cyprus enjoys almost year-round sunshine and holidaymakers can take full advantage of the warm Mediterranean waters during their stay.ADNFCR-2580-ID-800634744-ADNFCR
