Toy Story Land opens in Hong Kong

Kids and adults alike can have fun with Woody and Buzz Lightyear at the new Toy Story Land in Disneyland, Hong Kong.

Inspired by the series of blockbuster movies, the new adventure area marks the first phase in Disney's plans to expand their theme park in the former British outpost.

Bill Ernest, president and managing director for Asia Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, said the opening was the beginning of a new chapter in the resort's already glittering history.

“For the first time ever, Hong Kong Disneyland Guests can experience the feeling of being shrunk to the size of a toy when they enter Andy’s backyard to play with their favourite Toy Story friends," he stated.

Disneyland Hong Kong opened to much fanfare in the summer of 2005 but has struggled to attract a wealth of visitors since.

The number of people paying into the park to see Mickey Mouse and friends did rise to 5.2 million people in 2010 but Disney were still some $720 million out of pocket on the project at the start of this year.
