Thailand 'offers more than beach holidays'

People booking cheap holidays to Thailand should expect more than the beach and city breaks usually associated with the destination.

This is according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), which has been promoting the diverse range of activities and attractions on offer in the country.

Chris Lee, marketing advisor for the TAT, said that holidays to Thailand are "not just about 'drop and flop'".

He explained that recent efforts to attract more tourists to the north of the country, which includes ancient cities, heritage trails and orchid farms, are helping to broaden Thailand's appeal.

"It is a completely different experience from the traditional city and beach resorts which is what Thailand is known for," Mr Lee added.

However, he also said that traditional holiday hubs such as Bangkok, Phuket and Koh Samui remain hugely important to the country's tourism industry.

Phuket is Thailand's largest island and is known for its popular beaches, family resorts and thriving nightlife.
