'Shop around' for best exchange rates'
Families heading off on
holidays to the Canary Islands and other popular destinations this half term have been urged to shop around for the best currency deals.
According to Moneysupermarket.com, travellers can end up paying over the odds by exchanging their money at the airport.
Peter Harrison, a travel money expert at the website, said holidaymakers can "save a packet" by choosing the right method of payment when overseas.
He noted that prepaid currency cards can offer good value for money, but added that travellers should always do their homework when signing up for these.
"Consumers should ensure they read the terms and conditions when signing up to a prepaid card as not all providers offer the same rate of exchange and some can charge for transactions in certain situations," Mr Harrison explained.
Speaking recently, Ian Bradley of the Association of Independent Tour Operators said Brits are travelling more now that the global recession has eased.
