Puerto Rico really is doing it better
The "Puerto Rico does it better" campaign appears to be paying instant dividends for the Caribbean island.
The resort’s tourist board launched the campaign this year as part of its attempts to make the Latino island a viable competitor for Jamaica’s Caribbean tourism crown.
Hotel booking are up by 5.8 per cent on 2010 and the average daily rate paid has risen by 4.3 per cent.
Mario Gonzalez-Lafuente, executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, said the campaign has helped to change the way which holidaymakers view the island and what it has to offer.
He added: "We are working to continue this trend and to make Puerto Rico the undisputed number-one vacation destination in the Caribbean for our fellow Americans."
Nicole Rodriquez, a colleague of Mr Gonzalez-Lafuente, recently said that it is their intention to make Puerto Rico the first place people think of when they plan a
summer holiday in the Caribbean.
