New games could boost demand for holidays in Thailand

All inclusive holidays and other breaks in Thailand could prove a more popular option as a result of a new initiative by the country's tourism agency.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has launched two social media games celebrating the tuk-tuk - a popular form of three-wheeled transport - and the country's cuisine.

Available on smartphone devices, Tuk Tuk Racing challenges users to reach a destination as quickly as possible while avoiding obstacles, while Somtam Sukjai, which can only be played on the iPad, asks players to find different ingredients listed on a menu in a fixed period of time.

One of the main aims of the initiative is to boost the profile of Thailand as a potential holiday destination for young, technology-savvy travellers.

TAT governor Suraphon Svetasreni said: "TAT has initiated an active digital marketing strategy in order to promote and strengthen the image and positioning of Thailand's tourism industry.

"Digital is the new media to reach the internet and smartphone users, all of whom are well-educated with high income levels."

Destinations on offer to Brits planning summer holidays in Thailand this year include Bangkok, Koh Samui and Phuket.ADNFCR-2580-ID-800608908-ADNFCR
