New British passport unveiled
Britons planning to take
holidays to Greece and elsewhere this year may be interested to learn that a newly designed passport has been unveiled.
It will be issued from October and contains a host of new security features, as well as pages showing some of the UK's best-known scenes, such as the Gower Peninsula and Ben Nevis.
"Through its combination of physical and electronic security features, the UK passport remains one of the most secure and trusted documents in the world, meeting rigorous international standards," said Sarah Rapson, chief executive of the Identity and Passport Service.
The chip storing information has been moved inside the passport's cover to prevent tampering and the document will also contain a secondary image of the holder.
In other travel news, almost two million Britons jetted abroad over the bank
holiday weekend to popular destinations such as Greece, Turkey and Cyprus, according to Abta – The
Holiday Association.
