Long-haul holidays 'seen as a treat'
Taking a long-haul
flight to Florida or elsewhere is seen as more of a treat than jetting off on a short break to Spain, it has been claimed.
Gareth Williams, chief executive of
flight search site Skyscanner, said short-haul breaks are becoming increasingly common, with many people regularly spending weekends abroad.
"A longer-haul
holiday that crosses several time zones may have more impact simply because it is more novel and seen more of a treat than a
flight to Spain or Greece for example," he commented.
Mr Williams noted that travellers can often save money by flying to their destination indirectly and adding a few hours to their journey.
Stopovers can also be a great way to take the pain out of a long trip and give travellers the chance to sample other places, he added.
In a recent poll carried out by Skyscanner, Canada, Australia and South Africa were voted as the happiest
holiday destinations by Brits.
