Jamaica 'most affordable for long-haul breaks'
The sun-soaked Caribbean island of Jamaica is an affordable destination for Brits taking long-haul
holidays abroad, it has been claimed.
Sarah Munro, head of Post Office Travel Services, noted that the pound has increased in strength by 24 per cent against the Jamaican dollar over the last year, making it much cheaper for holidaymakers travelling from the UK.
She commented that a recent study, which took into account the cost of eight staple items, revealed that Jamaica is the cheapest of the four "big Caribbean islands".
"We found prices to be 15 per cent lower in Jamaica than in St Lucia, the most expensive Caribbean Island surveyed," Ms Munro explained.
Speaking recently, Jamaica's minister of tourism Edmund Bartlett claimed the country is projecting solid tourism growth over the coming year, with the number of people visiting the popular island expected to rise by around six per cent during that period.
