Holidaymakers offered sun safety advice

Families taking holidays to Turkey and other popular destinations have been offered some advice on how to stay safe in the sun.

According to ABTA - The Travel Association, an estimated two million people will jet abroad over the Easter period.

The organisation has published a new leaflet reminding travellers to take care when exposing their skin to the sun.

Entitled How to Have a Safe and Healthy Holiday it urges families to build up the time they spend in the sun gradually.

Other tips include avoiding exposure between 11am and re-applying sun lotion frequently and drinking plenty of water.

ABTA destination and sustainability manager Angie Hills commented: "We need to take care of ourselves and our children in the sun to prevent short-term hazards such as dehydration, sun stroke and sunburn and to prevent skin cancer."

Founded in 1950, the organisation currently represents around 5,700 travel outlets across the country.
