Holidaymakers advised to buy unusual currencies early
Holidaymakers jetting off to unusual destinations should order their foreign currency in advance, it has been claimed.
According to the Post Office, some foreign exchange providers only stock popular notes and coins, meaning they may have to put in a special order if you are heading somewhere exotic.
Although Turkish lira and Egyptian pounds are widely available, travellers may find it more difficult to get hold of East Caribbean dollars, the organisation noted.
Holidaymakers are also advised to shop around for the best currency deals.
Sarah Munro, Post Office head of travel services, commented: "People may think that rates offered are all the same, but in fact they vary tremendously depending on the currency. UK tourists who don't check the rate offered for the currency they need could end up with less money to spend on
holiday."
She added that buying currency at the airport can also be a costly mistake.
Bob Atkinson, an expert at moneysupermarket.com, recently warned holidaymakers that they could also be left out of pocket if they do not purchase travel insurance.
