Head to the far east 'for a cheap holiday'

Those hoping to book a cheap long-haul break this winter have been advised to head to the far east.

Published earlier this week, the Post Office Holiday Cost Barometer shows that Thailand offers excellent value for money for British travellers, with a cup of coffee costing as little as 50p.

Other destinations where Brits can expect to get more bang for their buck include Jamaica, Mexico, Bali and Malaysia, the report revealed.

However, Sarah Munro, Head of Post Office Travel Services, warned that savings can soon be wiped out if travellers fail to purchase their currency in advance.

"Leaving it late and changing money at the airport or in overseas ATMs means wasting hard-earned cash through costly commission and withdrawal fees," she noted.

In a recent article for the Telegraph, Sophie Butler advised people to book all-inclusive packages if they want to save "serious" amounts of money on the cost of their holidays.
