'Go green' on a holiday to Greece
People who recycle and look after the environment at home often forget to do this when taking
holidays to Greece and other popular destinations.
However, Sue Hurdle, chief executive of sustainable tourism organisation the Travel Foundation, said it is important that people do not let their standards slip when they jet abroad.
"The things that have become second nature to us at home, like saving energy, remembering to switch the lights off and recycling, those things perhaps may not occur to us in the [
holiday] destination," she commented.
Ms Hurdle noted that people can be greener on
holidays to Greece by showering instead of taking baths, refusing plastic bags when shopping and buying locally-made souvenirs rather than imported items.
A recent study carried out by Greener
Holidays revealed that 49 per cent of people do what they can to help the environment when at home, but fail to do this when overseas.
