Majorca holidays set to prove popular this weekend

Majorca is among the destinations proving popular among Britons heading off on summer holidays over the August bank holiday weekend, according to Abta.

The travel industry association estimated that 1.8 million Britons will be embarking on overseas breaks between Friday August 26th and the following Monday.

Spain remains the number one holiday destination, with the Balearic islands proving particularly popular, Abta revealed.

The Costa del Sol, Costa Blanca and other areas along the Spanish coast will also see an influx of visitors from the UK, along with all inclusive holiday hotspots such as Portugal and Greece.

Egypt, Turkey and Tunisia were also singled out for their "great value".

Mark Tanzer, Abta's chief executive officer, said: "This bank holiday weekend is the traditional curtain call for the busiest summer months and I am delighted that hundreds and thousands of our customers are heading off to enjoy a break in the sun overseas, as well as the millions who will be sampling the delights of our beach resorts, countryside and historic cities here at home."ADNFCR-2580-ID-800710693-ADNFCR
