Holidays to Majorca 'proving popular'
Despite the economic downturn, it seems that British families are as keen as ever to jet off on
holidays to Spain and other sun-soaked destinations.
Figures released this week by
flight provider Monarch show that summer bookings are up by around 11 per cent compared to last year.
The airline said it expects to handle around 300,000 passengers during the peak school
holiday period.
Monarch noted that its newest route between Gatwick and Majorca is proving particularly popular with families heading abroad.
"The Canary Islands of Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Tenerife, along with city-breaks to Barcelona, are in demand this summer with a 40 per cent increase in bookings on these routes compared to the same period last year," the airline added.
In related news, Bristol Airport revealed earlier this week that it handled 8.52 per cent more passengers in June 2010 compared to the same period last year.
