Work in the Community - Sustainable Travel for Schools - EcoKids
The Co-operative Group has a long history of successful community work and The Co-operative Travel is becoming more actively involved in community projects.
The Co-operative Travel has developed a unique education programme to enhance children’s knowledge of sustainable travel. The Sustainable Travel for Schools scheme teaches children about responsible tourism and provides an insight into how a travel agency operates. As part of the scheme, our travel agents visit local schools to educate Year 5 children on how the decisions taken when choosing a holiday can make it more sustainable. The children then complete a scrapbook to represent their holiday and the actions they took to make it more sustainable. We offered a fantastic Travelife eco friendly family holiday for the pupil that produced the best sustainable scrapbook.
We are therefore proud to share with you some of the excellent work collated by the EcoKids that made the final seven in our 2010 competition. From a summer spent on the Norfolk Broads, to trips in Sweden or fun-filled beach holidays in the Med, our earth conscious crusaders used their scrapbooks to pull together real-life memoirs of how they spent their summer “sustainably”
The quality of the finalist’s scrapbooks inspired us to work with our key travel partners to develop and showcase a selection of eco-friendly family trips, based on the holidays our EcoKids took and the ideas they shared.
