Ethical Strategy

Welcome to our Ethical Strategy

As a co-operative business and part of The Co-operative Group, ethics are very close to our heart. We have a long history of corporate responsibility which we’re very proud of and in 2011, The Co-operative took a great leap forward with the launch of a new Ethical Operating Plan and the aim to be clearly recognised as the UK’s most socially responsible business.

At The Co-operative Travel, we offer our customers the widest selection of holidays. We actively collect a charity donation of £2 on all holiday bookings to raise money for the Travel Foundation and Mencap. We have been committed to sustainable tourism since we launched our Ethical Strategy in 2008 and the funds that we have collected to date on their behalf allow us to have our own sustainable tourism projects in various countries abroad. The projects that we support aim to help lessen the impact that our customers holidays may have on the environment and local communities. We’re also delighted, this year, to support Mencap and Enable Scotland, The Co-operative Group Charities of the Year, who provide vital support to help improve the quality of life of people with learning difficulties.

We’ve also been working hard to increase the range of holidays we offer by rail and we continue to offer members free carbon offset on their holiday flight.

The Co-operative Group are committed to inspiring young people and The Co-operative Travel is the lead sponsor of The Co-operative Academy at Brownhills and we’ve developed a unique sustainable travel for schools initiative. This initiative educates year 5 school children in the importance of sustainable tourism and how they can be responsible travellers.

This document further details some of the work highlighted above and what we’ve achieved so far in other areas. We believe that it is possible to do business in a way that’s good for everyone.
